This is one of the things I found out when installing a series of energy meters on my WebBrick system.
I found that the over night consumption of the DP10000Mk2 was 60W !
It seems that they come shipped to provide a 'pre-heat' to the output circuits so that fast changes in level do not stress the filaments as much as a fast change from cold. This is good in a stage or club application, but not in domestic deployment.
If you remove the top cover you'll find an adjustment pot next to the four channel LEDs. Turn this so that the LEDs are just off when your lights are at the 'Off' scene. This will reduce consumption from 60W to 6W.
Now even 6W is a hefty background load these days so I went a step further and used an Analogue input connected to the Analogue outputs using a 'fan' of 47K resistors. I then used thresholds to control a relay that powered the DP10000Mk2, I used 1% for the On and Off.
The result is smooth fades and no background load.
