    NJD 12-4 12way DMX Dimmer

Here are some notes from testing.

This device has an RJ11 connector which is paralleled to the DMX socket but not documented in the manual.  We found the connections to be:

    1        2        3       4        5        6

    NC     OV     D+     D-     12V    NC

     Connect 3 to WebBrick SerB

     Connect 4 to WebBrick SerA

Tested at loads from 50W to 600W on IBL cheap Halogens - no flicker rock steady!

Below 150W silent, above the slight buzz you seem to get with all dimmers.

Can the webbrick control all 12 channels on this dimmer pack and do you need firmware 6.5?

I see in this post that it was expected that the limit would be 4 channels over DMX

How does this work, does it require a gateway to construct the DMX packets for output over RS232?
Is it possible to assosiate comands with a DI thereby maintaining the "local control, global intelligence" model?

The webbrick is currently limited to 8 DMX channels.

With firmware 6.5 you have the ability to send commands to the webbrick to set a channel to a level.

You can also make a DMX channel the target of a webbrick trigger.

We are alpha testing 6.6 at present which can track the analogue ouputs onto the first 4 DMX channels. It can also be set so that scenes control the 4 DMX channels instead of the analogue outputs.

So in answer no it dopes not need agateway to construct DMX data.

A DI can set a DMX channel to a level.

    Note: DMX is RS485.

Sounds good. So in theory you could have DI0-7 control 8 channels over DMX and DI 8-11 control the 4 analgue outs for 12 lighting circuits from one brick?
,but the limitation is that this would only be for on/off only as there are no more inputs left to signal a step up/down.

However it is possible using logic on an external central PC to tell a DMX channel to go to a level, or increase/decrease brightness; so you could have web pages with touch panels doing the more complicated scene stuff.

Are you saying at present DMX channels cannot be used in a local scene?

What is the reason you are looking to provide an either or scene option with the 4 analgue outs or 4 DMX outs; would it not be possible to add 8 more colums to the scene selector with the DMX channels independantly controlled?

Where do I get firmware 6.5 from, i am currentyl running 6.4.1773
