    Saving and Restoring WebBrick Configurations

    Just a quick one.

    1. How do you save a complete WebBrick configuration to a file to be restored in case of failure? (Not suggesting that they do this often)

    2. How do you restore that configuration when said failure occurs? (Again, not saying that this has, or is going to happen.)

       1. Just save the wbcfg.xml file (XML Configuration)

       2.  Use WebBrick Manager on the Gateway to restore the configuration.  Note that the IP address will not be updated.

Saving and restoring is a good way of copying similar WebBrick configurations around.  I often use it to speed up site-setup.  I carry round a bunch of useful configs and use those as a starting point.  For me the most common reason to restore a configuration is a firmware upgrade.  But then again I'm often testing the pre-release stuff.

    Thanks Andy

So what your saying is that there's no way to do it without using a gateway? I assume the gateway software has the same feature?

Yes I am saying that you need Gateway software to perform this function.  In the days of WB5 and 6.0 we had a command line utility that was shipped on the resource CD.

We ought to re-visit this, or create a special installers version of the software with lots of the common tasks built in:

    • WebBrick Manager
    • Known WebBricks
    • Every Temperature Sensor
    • Last 20 UDP Events (choice of DI,TD,DO etc)
    • All channels Off
This would certainly ease installation.  I have a bunch of configs that I modify for each site.  Currently we are in the final stages of a new version of the Gateway software so anything like this would need to wait.

    Regards
