    Mapping Mimics

I have been doing a bit of searching and have found how to map mimics to outputs other than the default Digital outs 0-7.

    (To quote the webBrick manual)

The default setting is that Digital outputs 0 to 7 are associated with mimic output 0-7.
The on level and on level can be reconfigured with the SM command.
    e.g. CMA0;0;A1;1;A2;2;A3;3: target mimics 0 to 3 from analogue 0 to 3.

    My question now is this.

Senario: Standard setup. Top button scrolls through scenes, bottom button is off. Only "on/scene" button is lit when in darkness. When on any scene other than the final scene, both buttons need to be lit.  When on the final scene, only the off button should be lit.

How is this done? I've seen it on many installations but without using up digital outs, I cant work out how it's done.

     Nice Question.

First, mapping mimics is something that we consider 'Ninja' level configuration.  The advantage of using some spare digital outputs is that you can see what should happen on the web page and compare this to the switchplate.  This assures you that the wiring and logic is correct.

However, yes you can save a digital output by using CM to an analogue output you know will always be 'On' when above Scene0 or Scene8.  This would make me wince!!  Remember Digital Outputs 4-6 are TTL and rarely used and therefore make ideal mimic candidates (7 can be used as IR out). The best solution is buy more WebBricks and keep your mind uncluttered!.

In the 'Master Bedroom' scenario where you have both scenes and setpoints in play (Scenes for the major lights, setpoints for the reading lights). It is acceptable to map the mimics for the reading light buttons to the appropriate analogue channel.

You can then use the Gateway to do stuff like having a double click on one side turn of the reading light on the otherside (for people whose partners fall asleep reading).

    Thanks Andy

I assume that by making this work I am now a "Ninja" or at least whatever a ninja in training is called. I can see the benefit of having a gateway but this particular request was for a standalone webbrick project so this method is perfect. Now... Any way to stop the relays working so my mimics don't click? lol

    Thanks again
