    Non brick lighting

    Hello,

I have 3 lighting channels in my property that will not be controlled by the brick as I have run out of channels. I dont mind as they dont need to be dimmed. I do, however, want to use the same push switches that will be connected to the brick on the dimmed lights . These switches are obviously low voltage. Can anyone suggest a relay setup the would allow me to use these push switches to trigger an on/off circuit for the existing mains wiring powering these lights?

I take it these are non-latching switches, and you are looking for a Push -> on, Push -> off function?

One solution would be a 'step relay' or 'impulse relay'.  Try www.rswww.com, search for the FINDER 20.22 family; there's a downloadable datasheet showing the switching sequences available.  Note the coil resistances are low, so your pushswitch needs to be good for 250mA inductive if you drive these relays directly at 24v.  Bonus is they mount on DIN rail.

Run out of channels or run out of dimmed channels?

i.e. are you using all 4 mains, all digital and all analogue. I know I am pedantic.

Are these lights to switch at the same time as something else? or independant?

    Hello,

    Thank you for your replies.

Yes, these switches are not latching so yes, push on/push off.

I have run out of analogue channels connected to my dimmer rack which is driving the lights. You mentioned the digital outs, could these be used since i only want on/off and no dimming?

Yes. Just treat a dig-out as you would an analogue one adn you'll get an on or off response if you use it with a dimmer pack.

     Hi,

For the analogue outs I am using soundlab 4 channel rack that is expecting 0-10v analogue. If i send the digi outs of the brick in to that i will get an off / full effect?

No, cos the DI's only give out 4.8v if I remember rightly; there still isn't a data sheet for 6.4 hardware.

You could use the DI as the trigger for a DIN mounted relay.

If it ain't broke, fix it until it is

(advice from me is just that, advice)

Having read through this thread I can't tell if you are using the triac outputs.  These would give On/Off control of 4 lighting circuits up to an aggregated load of 6A.

The triac are the zero volt crossover switching types so they are electrically noiseless.

And if you've used all those there are 2 relays rated at 6A as well ...
