    DMX?

    Hi,

    Is there a fairly straightforward way to interface with DMX controlled dimmers, and lighting fixtures from the webbrick?

    Cheers,

    Ed Marden.

     Webbrick 6.5 firmware is in beta testing at present and this supports the use of the serial interface that was added to the webbrick 6.4 for use in controlling DMX dimmers. Note this is not intended to control a full rack of dimmers (i.e. up to 512 channels) but is limited to 8 DMX channels. These channels are used as the targets of a trigger on the webbrick or can be directly controlled over the nwetwork from the gateway.

    Hope this answers the question.

    .. and here is a little note that points to the connections used in DMX. You'll note that most vendors are using three pin XLRs and no standard was ratified, therefore both polarities are in use.  This makes my blood boil, why have standards then ignore the flipping things --- grrr

    DMX Connections

    We tested the connections to a Sound Lab 4 Channel Dimmer Pack and found:

         Serial A --> XLR Pin 3 --> Data -

         Serial B --> XLR Pin 2 --> Data +

    Re: DMX Connections

     ...And to further that discussion. How do command the serial connection to output a DMX channel/value combo? would that be with 'manual commands'

     If so, what would be an example of a command to set channel 002 to value 256 (full on right?)
