Controlling entertainment media through the Gateway

Does anyone have experience of controlling a PC directly using the touchscreen and WBG? In the configuration I am imagining the PC holds eBooks and audio books and music and can deliver these to 2 satellite PCs which would be the clients. So it is really file delivery from the central source to clients. This is regularly done with music and other MP3 files but text files in doc or pdf or ebook formats are done less often. Also easy for a client-server network.

My question really concerns the interface to the WBG to control this. Does this exist and is it easily adaptable?

The code samples we have shown on our demo stands and which are included with the WebBrick Gateway development kit control iTunes devices, typically a computer running iTunes, where we show someone answering a voip phonecall & the iTunes player being automatically paused, and upon hang-up, the iTunes player restarts playing. This is achieved by having the Asterisk/Trixbox PBX used send in the published HTTP strings to the iTunes player.

This technique can be extended for a number of audio devices, but we don't expect to write all such support ourselves, but rather will respond to the market needs as given to us by Installer partners such as yourselves. You also can move ahead on these without further help from us, if you need to. The system is completely extensible.

We have a lot more plans for audio & video, and yet the opportunity to change those, so please do tell us what you need and when you need it. (These sorts of discussions will likely progress outside this public forum.)

To be a little more specific Asterisk/Trixbox is configured to talk to an event listener in the WebBrick gateway that distributes call & hangup events around the system. These events are then used picked up and used to affect the control of Itunes. This is the general approach to a lot of integration for the WebBrick gateway, by using a light weight evcent distribution network we decouple event sources and event consumers.

So the real question is what programatic interfaces does the PC software provide that can be used to control the software?

Thanks. This will be very useful if the project comes our way. I was really worried about delivering text documents to a client PC. From what I have seen, iTunes is not capable of doing this because it is designed around streaming MP3s or video. But I am only guessing. The best way is probably to try it.

Is the control all by the client PC? Or will the client PC be driven from elsewhere?

Can the control of iTunes also handle control of which remote speaker(s) it uses and more than one itunes running at any one time?
