My Project - at first fix

I am a self builder building a 6 bed house at Felsted Essex, it will have 4 bedrooms which will be used as an ‘up market’ B&B when completed, with appropriate Hi tech,IT, automation and media in place. We want to build in the capacity to encompass a wide range of technologies and automation. We are up to first fix and I really need to plan the cabling and start installing within the next month. The web bricks system looks to meet our needs and is expandable. I recognize I may need professional advice and some support in this. The advice I got about your system at the Home building show at Excel was really good.

As I need to get on and put in some cables my understanding is that I should put:-

1xcat5 cable back to a star point for all switches, sensors, camera points, controlled equipment?

2xcat5 + 2 coaxial cables star point for each room where computer and multimedia required?

I can see how this changes the Lighting circuits but would you put ring mains in as normal?

    Hi Tony,

I would recommend contacting Guy@h2m8.com so he can put an installer in touch with you.

You are along the right lines but getting the cables right is the most important part of the job, and the information needed is a bit beyond what can be typed out on this forum.

I'm not with holding info to push you into the arms of someone who is charging you, but knowing what cables to run where only comes about from understanding what you want to achieve.

But if you want a general overview I would say 2xCat5e to the light switches, at least 1 to all the other things you mention.

3xCT100 and 3Cat5e is a safe amount to run to any pointed where you might want multimedia.

Ring mains does go in as normal, unless you want control of any of the sockets.

    Hope that helps.

If it ain't broke, fix it until it is

(advice from me is just that, advice)
