    interfacing with mode dimmers

I have the option to purchase some 8 channel dimmers by mode, more specifically SP-06-08

Has anyone used/interfaced with them or know if I would have any problems with them with the webbrick?

    Cheers,

    Ian.

The model I'm looking at is the mirage SP-06-08, currently being controlled by an SD8R. The datasheet for this exact models don't appear on the website which is part of the problem :)

Not sure that you need anything that fancy.

    The normal ones recommended are:

If you have space issues or want to rack mount there are other options.

I phoned Mode Lighting and got them to send me the datasheets.  And YES you can use this model, however a cheaper and more appropriate alternative in the range is the MP-06-08 that has the same dimming board as the SP version but without the RS232 and DMX processor board.

I had a good chat with Dan Strzelecki at Mode and it appears that just about every dimmer they do would work with WebBricks.

These dimmers look really good. Apart from the emergency triacs and the MCBs, what do you get for the extra £350 (for the 4 channels) or £500 (for 8 channels)?

In short a high quality product fit for purpose :-)

Better casework, better heatsinks, better connectors, better protective devices, better pcbs, better quality/specification components, better design, better quality output, better power factor, better electrical and physical noise performance, better EMC performance................ :-)

An install dimmer should be a physical package designed to fit with industry standard cable/cable management techniques and common layouts, you should expect good tech support, good spares backup, comprehensive testing and specification, robustness, long term reliability.... the list goes on.
